The table below shows all the elements that are required to
achieve the Carpentry Advanced Apprenticeship Framework.
Apprentices must successfully achieve all the elements before an
Apprenticeship Certificate is awarded by the Sector Skills Council
- Construction Skills.
Apprenticeship
NVQ 3 in Wood Occupations. Mandatory Core
Units:
- Conform to General Workplace Safety
- Confirm Work Activities and Resources for the Work
- Develop and Maintain Good Working Relationships
- Confirm the Occupational Method of Work
Site Carpentry Option. Mandatory Units:
- Install First Fixing Components
- Install Second Fixing Components
Plus any two units from the following:
- Erect Structural Carcassing Components
- Erect Complex Structural Carcassing Components
- Maintain Non-structural and Structural Components
- Set Up and Use Fixed or Transportable Machinery
Bench Joinery Option. Mandatory Units:
- Produce Setting Out Details for Routine Products
- Mark Out from Setting Out Details for Routine Products
- Manufacture Routine Products
- Manufacture Complex Shaped Products
Plus any one unit from the following:
- Set Up and Use Fixed or Transportable Machinery
- Produce Complex Shaped Product Details
- Produce CAD Setting Out Details
Level 3 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery:
- Knowledge of Information, Quantities and Communicating With
Others (3)
- Knowledge of Building Methods and Construction Technology

Bench Joinery:
- Know how to and set up and use fixed and transportable
machinery
- Know how to and manufacture complex shaped joinery
products
- Know how to and produce complex shaped joinery product
details
- A synoptic practical assignment Site Joinery:
- Know how to and erect complex structural carcassing
components
- Know how to and maintain non-structural and structural
components
- Know how to and set up and use fixed and transportable
machinery
- A synoptic practical assignment
