Cleaning can offer a viable career with clear paths of
progression and you are not limited by type of sector or industry -
everyone needs cleaners.
It is an essential job in so many ways - keeping infection and
diseases at bay on hospital wards, restoring order to messy offices
and often dealing with customer enquiries.
Training is important. Cleaners deal with hazardous chemicals
every day - it is crucial they have the skills to carry out such
duties safely and effectively.
Induction
The Apprenticeship Induction will last approximately 4
hours. Learners will be asked to complete Literacy and
Numeracy Assessments which will determine their level, an Initial
Job Specific Assessment, a Skill Scan and an Enrolment Form.
Learners will read and sign the Learning Agreement and Training
Agreement and undertake a Learning Style Questionnaire, they will
spend some one to one time with their trainer/assessor to draw up
and agree their Individual Learning Plan. Duration The
Apprenticeship will take 8 to 12 months to complete, depending on
the learners competency and attendance.
Apprenticeship Content
The Level 2 Framework is made up of 4 components:
- The Technical Certificate (Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning
Principles) is the knowledge section. This is delivered over 14-16
weeks. We can either do one full day a week at our training suite
in Deptford, or we can come to your premises and train your staff
at a time suitable for you in an appropriate room on site. Learners
are trained in Dealing with routine and non routine waste, Health
and Safety for the cleaning and support services industry, Working
with customers and others in the cleaning and support services
industry. Learners have to pass a multiple choice test for each of
these units. Learners are also trained in an additional optional
unit that matches their job; this is tested by means of 2
assignments and 2 assessments.
- Key Skills (Level 1 in Application of number and Communication)
this is delivered during the 14-16 weeks with the Technical
Certificate. Learners will have to complete an assignment to cover
both Application of number and Communication, they will also be
required to pass an on line test for each. Should the learner fail
the test, they will have to re sit during the remainder of the
course.
- Employee Rights and Responsibilities Workbook This is a work
based checklist covering all aspects of employment and the cleaning
industry. Learners are asked to complete this, with the help of
their supervisor and trainer/ assessor, after their induction
and to bring along to the Technical Certificate course for checking
and sign off.
- QCF (Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning and Support Services
Skills) this has replaced what was the NVQ and is the competency
part of the qualification. Learners are assessed on 4 mandatory
units and 2 optional units. The assessor will visit the learner at
their work place at least once a month to assess their
competence.
