Sports & Exercise Apprenticeships

Course Introduction

This programme is for those who wish to work as an advanced instructor.  It will enable candidates to plan and instruct progressive programmes of exercise specific to a client's needs.

What will I achieve?

A full Apprenticeship programme will give you the following qualifications: NVQ 3 - a nationally recognised qualification in Instructing Exercise and Fitness. Technical Certificates - These certificates assess specific occupational underpinning knowledge and understanding. Key Skills - Level 2 in "communication and "application of number".

What subjects will be covered?

A variety of units will be covered including:

  • Plan, review and adapt a progressive physical activity programme
  • Motivating and supporting clients
  • Nutrition and weight management
  • Core stability and flexibility exercises
  • Advanced Exercise and Fitness knowledge
  • Principles and practice of Personal Training
  • Marketing and selling of Personal Training service

How long is the course?

Day release either on a Monday or a Tuesday at Lewisham College Deptford Campus.  Commencing 8.30 through to 5pm The course runs for 30 weeks. The day would be a total of 6 hours study mostly made up of theory with some practical when required.

After the course?

The course will help candidates to progress within their existing role.  Candidates may wish to consider level 4 professional qualifications or degree level study. Management qualifications at level 3 or higher may be appropriate.
